My ‘simple good’ is creating and inspiring others because I like doing art. My ‘simple good’ was inspired by my friends and family and others that inspired me. I showed my ‘simple good’ in my artwork by showing art in a canvas is being creative and telling others to be inspired by others. I plan on using my meaning of the ‘simple good’ to improve my community and change the world by saying art is not just to inspire others to make something in the world that is changing the world. This is important to me because I love art and I want to be an artist when I grow up. A simple good question I would ask others is: What will you do to inspire others?

My ‘simple good’ is equality because I believe that people should be treated fair and have equal opportunities no matter their race, age, or even sexual preference. My ‘simple good’ was inspired by the fact that treating others inappropriately/or discriminating against them based on their beliefs. I plan on using my meaning of the ‘simple good’ to improve my community and change the world by changing others ideals that have been drilled into them by others. I say drilled because one doesn't just decide to discriminate against another. Something has to lead up to that moment or someone has influenced them into that mindset. Your beliefs shouldn't override what they like to do and what makes them happy in life. A simple good question I would ask others is: What thing in the world do you believe should be changed/fixed?

My simple good is inner peace. It is very important to take time to care for ourselves and nature can play a big role in our life to get peace. My 'simple good' was inspired by a rainy and gloomy day. I showed my simple good to show the refreshment a picture of nature can give you just by looking at it. This is important to me because when I am overwhelmed or stressed out I go out for a walk. I sometimes try to appreciate those quiet moments especially when my house tends to be very loud most of the time. I plan on using my meaning of the simple good to improve our community by reminding everyone that taking a break is not being lazy, it's self love. A simple good question I would ask others is: Where do you find your inner peace?

My ‘simple good’ is Paz en La Villita because we need peace in La Villita because there is a lot of danger. My ‘simple good’ was inspired by the shootings in La Villita which can cause a lot of disaster with the families who just lost a member. I showed my simple good in my artwork by describing how people want peace instead of violence. I plan on using my meaning of the ‘simple good’ to improve my community and change the world by having more peace in La Villita and stopping violence. This is important to me because gun violence is a daily tragedy affecting the lives of individuals around the world. More than 500 people die every day because of violence committed with firearms. A simple good question I would ask others is: Is there a cure for violence?

"My ‘simple good’ is growth because I want to continue growing in different areas, but in a proper way. I don’t want to rush the process because in doing so I won’t end up with the results I’m seeking. My ‘simple good’ was inspired by the quote "He Who Would Climb a Ladder Must Begin at the Bottom." My ‘simple good’ is shown in my photo because when building a skyscraper you always start from the bottom to end with positive results. However, starting from the top is unrealistic and will have horrible results. Just like in real life, when you start something you have to take all the necessary steps to accomplish it. You can’t just start from the top while skipping all the proper steps to reach there. This also showcases my journey in growing without rushing things. I plan on using my meaning of the ‘simple good’ to improve my community and change the world by using my growth as a person to inspire my community to do better as a whole, and to show them it’s not impossible to achieve our goals. My ‘simple good’ was inspired by looking outside, and seeing lots of plastic bags flying around, or seeing bottled waters out on the sidewalk. I depicted my ‘simple good’ in my art by drawing my message using pencil and colored pencils. My ‘simple good’ is to find the beauty in everything because it allows us to appreciate the little things. My ‘simple good’ was inspired by a conversation I had with a friend about the importance of keeping a positive mindset and finding beauty in all situations. I depicted my ‘simple good’ in my art by making the picture focus on the beauty in the photo. I wanted the picture to seem a little more dramatic and make the flowers pop more as that’s the beauty that came out of the photo for me. I plan on using my meaning of the ‘simple good’ to improve my community and change the world by teaching and showing others to always find the beauty in things even in a world of negativity. This is important to me because nowadays there is so much negativity and a lot of the time we try to sit and dwell on things we can’t change. Mon bien simple est la paix et l'amour parce que j'aime vivre dans la paix. Mon bien simple a été inspiré par l'art parce que j'aime peidre. J'ai représenté mon bien simple dans mes œuvres d'art par en peigmant un symbol. J'ai l'intention d'utiliser mon sens de bien simple pour améliorer ma communauté et changer le monde par la paix parce que c'est bien d'etre en paix. C'est important pour moi parce que le fais de vivre les gens heureux me rond aussi heureux. Une bonne question simple que vous poseriez aux autres est : Pourquoi les gens m'aime pas faire la paix?

My simple good is peace and love because I like to live in peace. My simple good was inspired by art because I love to paint. I have represented my simple good in my artwork by painting a symbol. I intend to use my meaning of simple good to improve my community and change the world through peace because it is good to be at peace. It's important for me because having happy people makes me happy too. A good simple question you would ask others is: Why don't people like me to make peace?

During Winter 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that still dictated our realities, there was no certainty on what life would continue to look like. It was during this time when Chicago non-profits, The Simple Good and BUILD Chicago, came together to reflect on the challenges of the past year and how we can work together to create light amidst the chaos. It did not take long for the youth to become the highlight of the discussion, being inspired by the resilience they always show. It was important for us to celebrate their continued strengths, leadership, and acts of simple good that they take part in everyday in order to show the world that these are acts that truly impact others.
This compilation of comics was inspired by The Simple Good’s ‘Sheroes of COVID-19’ book, which shared stories about female sheroes from across the globe who stepped up their leadership to spread the simple good during the pandemic. We wanted to challenge our girls to also think of themselves as change agents in their worlds as Sheroes of Chicago- elevating their truths that they have discovered throughout the pandemic.
This book is written by BUILD Chicago’s BUILDing Girls 2 Women youth who will share how they are Sheroes in their Chicago communities, depicting the ways they have used their meaning of the simple good to change their world. Read their stories and join their movement in order to create a better world… together.
