'Self Care' by Reggie McFly
Self Care explores hope through quiet preservation. The woman stands still, turned away, surrounded by open space that allows room for self care & reflection. In a world that constantly demands more from us, choosing to pause and care for oneself becomes a pure act of strength, love and resilience. The work suggests that hope is not always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it is inherited through small, intentional acts that allow us to continue forward with clarity and balance.

I am Reggie McFly, a Chicago based mixed media artist working in paint, clay, yarn, fabric, and tactile materials. My work moves in an imperfectly perfect rhythm, a dance between creativity and evolution. Each element travels across the surface like a dancer guided by instinct and trust, where texture becomes perspective carrying memory, emotion, and layered stories.
As a visually impaired artist, losing my eyesight reshaped how I create. It taught me to trust instinct, emotion, and energy, transforming what could have been an ending into a new beginning. My process embraces experimentation, allowing each piece to unfold naturally through curiosity and faith.
My works emerge like improvised performances. They are textured, vibrant, and layered, built through trial, error, and the lessons found in both. The art is meant to be felt as much as it is seen.
Through this work, I invite others to embrace the beauty within imperfection, move to their own rhythm, and discover meaning within the ever changing performance of life.
